I Madonnari – Italian Street Painting Festival at the Santa Barbara Mission took place May 28th-30th. The Old Mission plaza was transformed with vibrant and colorful street paintings using chalk on pavement. There were 300 local artists and children who took place in this yearly celebration. 2016 marks the 30th anniversary for I Madonnari. This festival benefits the Creative Children’s Project, a nonprofit arts education program of the Santa Barbara Education Office.
Santa Barbara is the first to bring this lively and exciting festival to the western hemisphere from it’s sister festival in Grazie di Curtatone, Italy.
