Mid-Century Renovation in Mission Canyon – Nick Noyes, AIA

Renowned San Francisco architect Nick Noyes started renovating from the ground up on this 1956 Ranch home . He began by repairing the plumbing, electrical and foundation prior to addressing the most important issue lingering over the property. In Noyes’ words, the house originally ” featured a cookie-cutter design and had no relationship with the site.”  He was quickly able to transform this and help create a unity between not only each room inside the house; (through the removal of two small rooms, creating a longer ‘central space’), but also between the home and its surrounding native environment.

[Noyes was able to do this through] -the use of simple materials such as Sheetrock, clear anodized aluminum windows and doors, modest details, and a wood-framed structure. Reveals incorporated into the walls give the owners a composition of blank “canvases” on which to explore color and texture.
